Trip Itinerary "Loreto Fly In"

The Baja Sur Loop, best described as the Jewel of Baja, is now within your grasp. Off the Grid Expeditions has once again gone beyond the limits with this amazing expedition, designed to put us right into the “epic-ness" of Baja, where the trails are fast and soft, and the never ending sights are breathtaking. For all those who have taken part in our northern Baja trips, you all know the terrain is rough and rocky. Baja Sur is not.  It has fun, fast, exciting trails that will cross the Baja peninsula from the Sea of Cortez to the Pacific on a giant loop.

The Off the Grid Expeditions transport trucks will take your UTV from California to Loreto 3 days prior to us leaving on the 15th 2022.

Day 1 -

Fly Day - San Diego CBX to Loreto

We will meet in San Diego at the Cross Border Express (CBX) border crossing. We are scheduled to fly out that morning. (Commercial Airline ) Flight time is about one hour to Loreto. The airline tickets for 2 people are included in the price of the trip.  We meet up at CBX Crossing (2745 Otay Pacific Drive, San Diego, CA 92154) and fly down to Loreto as a group. Once we arrive in Loreto, we shuttle over to the La Mission Hotel and meet the Chase Truck guys. The UTVs will be there, and we need to get everything ready for an early departure the next day.  Once we prep the UTVs we'll have  a drivers’ meeting and drinks by the pool.

Day 2

Loreto to Mulege

Departing at 8am after a hearty breakfast at the La Mission Hotel, the first stage will consist of a scenic drive up to the Mission San Javier, our first sight-seeing of the day.  We'll spend about an hour at the mission as we take a tour of its history. Once we leave the mission we'll head north offroad into the mountains of Serria San Pedro toward San Jose de Comondu. This amazing mountain is like a scene from Jurassic Park. The green lushness truly comes to life and we wind our way north to yet another mission, Misión San José de Comondú. Though not quite as spectacular as the San Javier Mission, it is none the less very impressive. We are  now in the middle of the Baja peninsula.

Then we'll still head north toward the small town of San Isidro. This will just be a pass through, as we change direction and head back out to the Sea of Cortez, through the canyons of Llanito de los Becerros, back to the coast, a short hwy drive to the Bahia de Conception for lunch.  For those who brought their dive masks, this will be a perfect opportunity to get wet and enjoy the Bay.

Following lunch,  we'll have a moderate Hwy drive up the Bahia de Conception and into Mulege for night 2. The hotel has wifi and is located on a beautiful isthmus that flows into the Bay. If daylight allows, we'll have time to sit around the pool and and enjoy the stories of the day. Dinner and breakfast are at the hotel..

Day 3

Mulege to Scorpion Bay

The route will go through washes of Mulege and through the Canyon La Venado, a spectacular tropical canyon that will cross us from the Cortez back to the Pacific. This rolling mountainside will take us though several canyons and water crossings and alongside creek beds. From the rain forest style trees to the canyon floors, the sights along this pass are what Baja is all about. Although not the fastest peninsula crossing, it is definitely one of the most beautiful.  We end in San Juanico aka Scorpion Bay and grab a late lunch and have time to see the beautiful town. If surfing is your passion this is the place.

San Juanico, better known as Scorpion Bay, is a small fishing village on the Pacific side of the peninsula that has become a classic Baja surf spot. There are multiple point breaks that bring epic surf when the conditions are right. When a big south swell hits, the waves break at four points and rides can last for over a minute. Small swells are great for beginner surfers while bigger ones require a little more experience.

Day 4

Scorpion Bay to San Carlos

Breakfast while watching the point brake in Scorpion Bay.... not a bad way to start your day!  We all know everyone loves to ride on the beach??? Well, today is your day... Leaving San Juanico we start on the beach and drive south with the Pacific Ocean on our right side. This almost endless hard packed beach drive is gorgeous. Pictures and video for sure - because once you tell your friends they won't believe you. As the beach drive ends, we exit at the Punta San Gregorio point, and take the sand hill up and over the sand car racetrack to Las Barrancas. We'll hit the beach down to Agua Del Coyote for lunch, safari style, and yet another long beach ride. We'll see the Chase Trucks for gas today for a quick top off, then back into the thick of it as we run the high speed mangroves of Santa Domingo and the Isla Magdalena.

San Carlos Sur is our destination for night. Located just feet from the water's edge, this amazing destination is everyone's favorite. From the first class location to the amazing food and atmosphere, San Carlos won't disappoint.

Day 5

San Carlos to La Paz

We leave San Carlos teary-eyed but yet still filled with anticipation as to what lays ahead on day 5.  The trails from San Carlos to La Paz are by far the fastest and most fun in Baja.  High speed is a YES! on these trails. Tons of whoops, but none big enough to throw you out of rhythm, allowing you maximize your UTV's full potential, taking on over 200 miles of never ending trails.  Although not directly  on the beach sand, the hard packed dirt is lightly covered with a soft layer of sand, making for some amazing trails, drifting corners and endless Pacific ocean sights to see. We meet up to get gas from the three Chase Trucks and enjoy lunch safari style again. Depending on time and how the day is going, we have a few different routes into La Paz. We'll cross over the peninsula once again from the Pacific to the Cortez and into La Paz for the night.

Day 6

La Paz to East Cape of Cabo

Laving LaPaz and driving south down toward La Vantana, we'll take a slight detour and head over to Los Suenos for brunch Baja style - epic food and drinks and non-stop laughter as we tell stories from the last 6 days. Los Suenos is an amazing place to visit. Great food, drinks and people make for the perfect stories.

The day is not over. With still over 50 miles to drive, we go down the east cape on a sight-seeing adventure. We will definitely make time for a few stops to jump into the ocean. The soft gloomy, trails make for an awesome ride. We'll pull into the Hotel Playa del Sol for the night.

Day 7

East Cape to Cabo

Our last day - but still plenty of miles to drive and sights to see. Laving El Cordona and driving south down toward Cabo, we'll take East Cape through Buenavista and Los Barriles before heading into to the mountains of Cabo Pulmo. This epic mountain drive will leave you in awe, as we drift the fun fast rollercoaster trails over to the middle of the peninsula where our off road trail will end and turn into a 35 mile HWY drive to the Pacific side of Cabo.

With extensive planning, these tours are designed for you to just show up and enjoy yourself. Leave all the stressful logistics and planning to us! Baja Sur is simply the most amazing adventure avalable.
