Pre-Trip Instructions

Once you have registered and your deposit is in, you will receive a registration link. This link will include the individual trip driver and passenger info, Baja Insurance link, hotel details for the night before the trip, parking information for your tow vehicle, UTV Baja prep details, personal preparations, and some FAQ. Please include a registration, Baja Insurance, and a copy of your passport in the UTV in a clear zip-lock bag.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

1 Tecate To San Felipe

October 10th, 2027

We start early in Tecate and waste no time getting into the dirt. From the border, we'll climb into Northern Baja's high country and the pine forests of the Sierra de Juárez, reaching elevations around 4,500 feet.

Fast mountain trails and flowing dirt roads give everyone a chance to settle into their machines before we make our way toward Valle de Trinidad for lunch.

From Valle T, we'll head toward the enormous El Diablo Dry Lake Bed, where the wide-open landscape gives us our first real taste of Baja desert.

Then the terrain gets rougher.

We'll enter the famous San Felipe washes before taking on Zoo Road, with its seemingly endless Baja whoops leading us toward the Sea of Cortez.

We finish Day 1 at the beachfront El Cortez Hotel in San Felipe.

2 San Felipe To Bahía De Los Ángeles

October 11th, 2027

Wake up overlooking the Sea of Cortez, grab breakfast, and get ready for one of the most scenic days of the expedition.

We'll start by running directly along the coastline before heading south toward Gonzaga Bay. Even the pavement sections down this stretch of Baja offer incredible views of the Cortez.

We'll stop around Gonzaga for fuel and lunch before turning back toward the dirt and the legendary Coco's Corner.

From there, we'll tackle washed-out desert trails, G-outs, sandy sections, and the beautiful Frog Canyon, where water crossings can sometimes turn this remote canyon surprisingly green.

The terrain eventually opens into sandy washes and faster hard-packed trails before becoming rougher again as we approach the highway into Bahía de los Ángeles.

Tonight we're surrounded by mountains, desert and the blue water of the Cortez.

This is Baja.

3 Bahía De Los Ángeles To San Ignacio

October 12th, 2027

Leaving Bahía de los Ángeles behind isn't easy, but today's route takes us even deeper into Baja.

We'll head south along the Sea of Cortez, stopping at remote beaches as we work our way through San Rafael and El Barril toward the isolated coastline around San Francisquito.

We'll stop near the beach for our trail lunch before turning inland and heading through the Sierra de San Francisco Mountains.

From here, we begin crossing the peninsula toward Highway 1.

We'll refuel around Vizcaíno, regroup, and depending on time and how the group is moving, either continue exploring dirt trails or make the final run toward San Ignacio.

We finish in one of Baja's most historic and beautiful desert oasis towns.

4 San Ignacio To Scorpion Bay

October 13th, 2027

After three big days, Day 4 gives everyone a chance to enjoy Baja at a slightly easier pace.

We'll leave San Ignacio and spend roughly 100 miles running soft, loamy trails and faster gravel roads toward the Pacific.

As we get closer to the coast, we'll drop into salt flats and sandy twisting trails that lead toward San Juanico - better known as Scorpion Bay.

And then the Pacific appears.

We'll have lunch overlooking the ocean before checking into our hotel and settling into one of Baja's legendary surf and fishing towns.

A shorter day.

But definitely not a boring one.

5 Scorpion Bay To Loreto

October 14th, 2027

This is one of those mornings you remember.

We'll leave Scorpion Bay and run south directly along miles of hard-packed Pacific beach, with the ocean beside us and plenty of room to enjoy the machines.

Eventually we'll leave the beach, cross the dunes, and turn east toward the mountains.

The route becomes rougher as we cross the peninsula, mixing rocky roads, hidden ruts, wide-open sections and small Baja communities.

We'll pass through La Purísima, San Isidro and Comondú, with a stop to explore the historic mission at Comondú.

The final off-road section brings rocky climbs and slower mountain passes before we descend toward the Sea of Cortez and Loreto.

Tonight we're back on the water - just on the opposite side of Baja.

6 Loreto To San Carlos

October 15th, 2027

We start Day 6 by climbing back into the mountains above Loreto toward one of Baja's most impressive historic landmarks - the San Javier Mission, completed in 1758.

We'll take some time to explore before pointing the UTVs west and getting back into the dirt.

Then the pace changes.

Fast sandy trails, uneven terrain, towering cactus and miles of flowing Baja backcountry take us across the peninsula toward the Pacific.

The route zigzags south toward San Carlos through a section that's become one of the favorites of the entire expedition.

We'll finish at a beachfront hotel overlooking Magdalena Bay, where dinner and another Baja sunset are waiting.

Six days down. The best is still coming.

7 San Carlos To La Paz

October 16th, 2027

Day 7 is a big one - approximately 240 miles of Baja.

Leaving San Carlos, we'll hit fast trails almost immediately. Expect a constantly changing mix of whoops, G-outs, hard-packed dirt, sandy sections and remote terrain.

We'll explore sections of the Pacific Coast that very few visitors ever see, with remote beaches and wide-open landscapes around nearly every corner.

Lunch today is planned beachside on the Pacific.

After lunch, we'll turn east and begin our final major crossing of the Baja Peninsula.

The trails eventually bring us toward La Paz, where we'll enter the city together and make our way to our hotel near the private marina.

Tomorrow there's only one destination left.

Cabo.

8 La Paz To Cabo

October 17th, 2027

The final day of Conquistador slows the pace down just enough to take in where we've been.

We'll leave La Paz and head south through the mountains, connecting remote trails with spectacular coastal sections as we work our way toward the southern tip of Baja.

Several possible routes are available for the final day, and we'll choose the best option based on trail conditions and how the group is doing.

No matter which route we take, the destination is the same.

Cabo San Lucas.

When we arrive, the UTVs will be loaded onto the transport trucks and begin their journey back north toward Tecate.

Eight days earlier, we started at the California border.

Now we're standing at the bottom of Baja.

After 8 unforgettable days crossing the Baja Peninsula from California to Cabo, the trail portion of Conquistador comes to an end - but the trip isn't over yet.

Once we arrive in Cabo on October 17, it's time to park the UTVs, clean up, and enjoy three nights in Cabo.

Your Cabo hotel is not included in the trip package. You are free to choose and book any hotel or resort in Cabo that you prefer.

Upon arrival, our crew will load the UTVs onto the transporter, and the machines will begin their journey north toward Tecate.

RETURN TRANSPORTATION & FLIGHT INFORMATION - OCTOBER 20

Flight information for the designated Cabo to Tijuana flight on October 20, 2027 will be provided by email so everyone has the opportunity to book the same flight.

Airfare is not included in the expedition package and must be booked separately by each participant.

Upon arrival at Tijuana International Airport, transportation back to Tecate will be provided.

STAYING LONGER IN CABO

Not ready to leave Cabo? No problem.

If you choose to extend your stay beyond October 20, we can arrange, at an additional cost, to transport your UTV across the U.S. border and securely store it until you return.

Terrain: 65% gravel roads, 10% hill climbs, 15% beach riding, 10% Hyw fast-paced driving style.

Our goal at Off the GRID Expeditions is to have a good time. With that said, being prepared and having the right tools/equipment can make everyone’s day much more enjoyable!

Stock UTV’s are very capable and impressive machines… they are also a lot of fun to customize! Although heavy modification isn’t necessary, there are basic items that you must have when going on a OFF the GRID run.

Here’s a list of required items for our Expeditions:
(Note: some expeditions might require more items, based on specific trail or location needs. See Run descriptions for more details.)

UTV prep is a must prior to any run. If one vehicle has a problem, we all have a problem.
All services done on vehicle. (oil change, air cleaner, brakes, nut and bolt )
All tires aired to proper pressure. ( 1 Spare in required on vehicle)
All equipment and parts securely tied down in UTV.
Full Fuel Tank. (Spare gas can be carried but must be safe and secure on UTV )
Tools, Jack and tow strap securely fastened in UTV.
Helmet with wired speakers for Intercom system. Yes helmets are 100% mandatory.
Radio - Mounted VHF radio, with weatherman programmed frequency 151.625 (see below)
Intercom - We highly recommend a wired intercom so you can clearly hear the radio and can easily transmit on the radio while driving. (see below)
GPS - Lowrance GPS Unit only- No exceptions (We provide the GPS file the morning of the expedition) (see below)
Drivers licence - Vehicle Registration - Insurance
Off Road lights - Some good light so you are comfortable driving at night. LED lights are recommended.
At least one full size spare. (Must be tied down and secure)

So why do we need a GPS?
The GPS is your life line when navigating these technical trails of Baja. Every turn has a surprise and without a well planned trail you would be lost in minutes. The GPS not only displays your exact route but it is also use for milage calculations for turns or and potential hazards as well as waypoints
Communication is key..
We use a VHF 55w radio with a preprogrammed channel to communicate from Utv to Utv. The operating channel is weather man (151.625) please make sure you have this preprogrammed into you're unit. All communication systems must wired into push to talk intercom system to your helmet. The VHF radios allow us to call out any potential hazards, milage, and just general communication amongst the group. Example ( Hazard mile 45.2 on right or "hey dude with the blue Can-Am you have a strap hanging under your Utv" )
Why because they save lives ......
Helmets are mandatory no questions asked. I know some ride with only head sets but with Off the GRID Expeditions you need to wear one. Goggles or full face shield as well !!!! You only have one head on your shoulders so use it wisely and protect it....

To prepare for your adventure, packing doesn't have to be overwhelming. Here's what you'll need:

Luggage: A carry-on size soft duffle bag is sufficient.

Check the weather in Baja California using your smartphone. Given the possibility of getting into the ocean, don't forget your bathing suits. Additionally, pack sandals or flip-flops, comfortable driving shoes, pants, shorts, and a few T-shirts. An all-conditions jacket is essential for chilly days. Your evening attire is your choice, but keep in mind that we'll be driving in the open air, so you may get a little dirty. If rain is in the forecast, a good rain suit will certainly be helpful. For hot days, Off the Grid Sun SPF 60 shirts work wonders to keep you cool. In the summer months, remember to pack sunblock and a hat.

Cooler and plenty of snacks for. the trail. We do stop for lunch, carry you through in case of any trail issues..

Cancellations initiated by the participant received in writing to Off The Grid Expeditions with more than 60 days notice before tour start date will receive their deposit as a credit to be used towards future tours with Off The Grid Expeditions. The credit expires 1 year after issued.
Cancellations initiated by the participant received in writing to Off The Grid Expeditions with 60 or less days notice before the tour start date will forfeit their deposit as a cancellation fee. Any balance payments can be held on file as a credit to be used towards future tours and services with Off The Grid Expeditions. The credit expires 1 year after issued.
Cancellations initiated by the participant received in writing to Off The Grid Expeditions with 30 or less days notice before the tour start date will forfeit their deposit and any balance payments as a cancellation fee.
Cancellations initiated by Off The Grid Expeditions due to conditions beyond their control including but not limited to fires, weather, terrorism, civil strife, floods, earthquakes, or natural catastrophes, etc. will be credited towards a future trip in full amount of balances paid.
